Kuunika Team Conducts Training Needs Assessment

The Kuunika Team conducted training needs assessment (TNA) in Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mangochi, Zomba and Thyolo between 28 July and 28 August 2017. Competency assessment was done for data handlers, decision makers and information technologists using standardized questionnaires and key informant interviews (KIIs).

The self-administered questionnaires were programmed using Research Data Capture (RedCap) mobile data collection software. During the assessment 30 KIIs and 132 self-administered questionnaires were done in the five districts.

Aims and objectives of TNA

The purpose of this TNA is to identify current specific training needs of data handlers, decision makers and IT personnel working on HIV so that relevant training packages are designed to strengthen data systems and data use in Malawi. The specific objectives of the TNA are:  

  • Determine the existing skills and competencies by different job cadres on health information systems (HIS) use
  • Identify training gaps/needs
  • Identify current HIS trainings available
  • Identify motivators and barriers to training attendance
  • Identify the most appropriate training strategies
